The Easter holidays are just around the corner
Here in North Yorkshire there are lots of things happening, making the area a great destination for your holiday, short break or days out. We have lots of great ideas to help you plan your days out - from Easter egg hunts and lambing experiences to craft activities and trails, we have it all.
Easter-themed activities for the whole family to enjoy
There are lots of fun Easter egg hunts happening at attractions around the area, including Newby Hall & Gardens, Studfold Adventure Trail, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden and Woldies. Children can join the seasonal fun with the garden detectives at RHS Garden Harlow Carr or follow the Easter family trail at Castle Howard.
Easter Wonderland at Mother Shipton’s Cave
Mother Shipton’s Cave near Knaresborough turns into an Easter wonderland as you feel as if you have fallen down the rabbit hole. Meet the Mad Hatter at his tea party, see the Queen of Hearts and, of course, Alice.
You can explore the woodland and visit the Petrifying Well and cave plus there are lots of spots for a picnic . Children can have fun in the adventure playground before having a well-deserved ice cream.

Lambing Experience Days
If you are looking for pre-Easter activities, head over to Humblebee Farm near Scarborough for a Lambing Experience Day.
Meet Farmer Percy, see and feed the lambs and meet sheep dogs, Alfie and Madge. Children can follow the sheep trail around the farm and have fun in the play park.

Step back in time for Easter holiday fun at Eden Camp Modern History Museum near Malton. Try wartime-inspired Easter treats, get creative at a craft workshop and complete the Easter trail as you look for hidden clues to find the message. Learn about wartime Britain through the different exhibitions in each hut, grab lunch in the NAAFI and finish the day in the adventure playground.
The North York Moors National Park Centres turn 50 in 2026 and to celebrate, Sutton Bank National Park Centre is holding a free birthday celebration on Good Friday (3 April) Join in the fun with live music, face painting, kids' crafts and circus skills.
Family days out on a budget
Alongside Easter events and activities, North Yorkshire has lots of attractions to explore and places to visit including budget-friendly options. Scarborough, Filey, and Whitby offer a classic seaside experience where building sandcastles, eating fish and chips and paddling in the sea are a must.
Set out on a family-friendly hike, perfect for exploring beautiful landscapes. Discover pretty reservoir walks where you are surrounded by nature - Fewston and Swinsty offer short, easy routes while Scar House in Nidderdale is more challenging. For coastal beauty, the Cleveland Way provides breathtaking cliffside views.
Learn about brave knights and kings at Knaresborough Castle and Courthouse Museum or discover big marine fossils and model ships at Whitby Museum. Spend time together in the Valley Gardens in Harrogate or Peasholm Park in Scarborough, where you can enjoy peaceful strolls, beautiful gardens, and plenty of space for a family picnic.
Rainy day ideas for all ages
We can’t guarantee sunshine, but we can guarantee you will have lots of fun whatever the weather with lots of indoor options to keep everyone entertained. Visit one of the many museums including the Royal Pump Room Museum in Harrogate, the Craven Museum in Skipton and the Prison and Police Museum in Ripon. Children with lots of energy can have fun exploring the tunnels and slides at The Hive at Stockeld Park.
