Our story

Set amongst the rugged Yorkshire landscape, RHS Garden Harlow Carr is the perfect spot for a day out that combines garden inspiration with outdoor exploration, all on the doorstep of the historic town of Harrogate.

Spanning over 60 acres, this beautiful garden has great history, real character, and lots to discover. Wander over the Thaliana Bridge and around the Queen Mother’s Lake, a haven for visitors and wildlife alike, with its soft plantings, wildflower meadows and majestic trees.

Then meander along the lish banks of the UK’s longest Streamside garden, adorned with giant candelabra primulas and rare blue Meconopsis poppies. Venture into the historic Bath Huse and discover creative exhibitions all year round.

Don’t miss the Alpine House, home to more than 2,000 plants, or the tranquil Sandstone Rock garden. The Vibrant Sub Tropicana Garden will transport you from Yorkshire to the tropics, while adventurous family members will be wowed by RHS Garden Harlow Carr’s stunning stretch of Woodland where you will also find Craggle Trop Tree House as well as the Logness Monster and Spiders nest play areas. This is where imaginations run riot!

RHS Harlow Carr is alive with events, exhibitions, workshops and live music all year round. With special adventures to entertain the kids every school holiday, tempt your taste buds at our Plot to Plate event (September) or immerse yourself in stunning exhibitions at the Bath House. Plus don’t miss our Summer Plant Fair in June and specialist plant shows throughout the year as well as our winter spectacular, RHS Glow and see the garden in a whole new light!

Food and Drink

The dazzle of RHS Harlow Carr isn’t just found in the flower beds! The Harrogate Arms uses ingredients picked fresh from the Kitchen Garden and offers delicious options for breakfast and lunch with artisan coffee, served alongside fantastic views of across the garden. You can also opt for Yorkshires famous Betty’s Café Tea Rooms and Shop serving elegant handmade cakes and the best teas and coffees.
