Danby
An unspoiled moorland village

- Danby
The unspoiled moorland village of Danby lies in the North York Moors National Park and is an official dark skies site. It is a picturesque place with open grassed areas where sheep freely roam, there is a delightful bakery serving the local community and a long standing pub. You can visit by train for a day out on the Esk Valley Railway or by a moors bus in the summer season.
The National Park Centre resides here, a tranquil setting surrounded by countryside and a small woodland, frequently hosting events and activities for all interests and age groups. There is also an amazing outdoor adventure play area for children and many walking routes in the surrounding area.
Danby was once the home of writer and cleric Canon Atkinson, vicar of Danby church. You can find St Hilda’s Church in a remote location up the dale, which is well worth a visit, offering amazing views across Danby dale. Just out of sight is Danby beacon - a landmark used as a way marker by thousands of walkers each year. The village is also home to a beautiful Castle dating back to the 14th century which is now a popular wedding venue.
