Osmotherley and the Western Moors

- Osmotherley
The handsome village of Osmotherley sits on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park and has long been a favourite among walkers. Its history as a walking hub dates to the 1800s when it gained popularity as an overnight stop on the Drovers Road – a historic route which ran from Scotland to the Southeast of England.
Today, Osmotherley remains a popular destination for hikers, with both the Cleveland Way and the Coast to Coast National Trails passing through the village. Walkers are well catered for with three inviting pubs, a cosy tearoom, and a well-stocked village store for supplies. The village is also the starting point for the 40-mile Lykewake Walk which starts at nearby Scarth Wood Moor and finishes at Ravenscar on the east coast.
A short drive from Osmotherley brings you to the ruins of a 14th century Carthusian priory, one of the best-preserved examples in the UK, or you can take it in on a 3 mile walk from the village through fields and along woodland path, taking in a section of the Cleveland Way.
