Escape to the Yorkshire Wolds, where nature's beauty and tranquillity await. With gently rolling hills and charming dry valleys, this North Yorkshire gem is perfect for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Vast arable fields dominate the tops, whilst smaller pastures are common in the valleys. On a clear day, the Wold tops offer spectacular views of the Vale of Pickering and the North York Moors, and to York. Great burial mounds dating back to the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age are common in this area, with the largest found at Duggleby.
Whether you're an avid hiker or just love a leisurely stroll, the Wolds Way is calling your name. This 79-mile National Trail winds through the heart of the Wolds, offering endless opportunities to soak in the scenery. Prefer a shorter walk? There are plenty of circular routes to choose from, each starting at various points along the trail.
One of the most intriguing sites in the Yorkshire Wolds is the lost village of Wharram Percy. This English Heritage site, deserted around 1500, features the ruins of a church and the remains of cottages dating back to the 13th century. Archaeological finds from the site are displayed at the nearby museum in Malton, providing a fascinating insight into medieval life.
Just a stone's throw from the Wolds Way Walk, you'll find one of Yorkshire's largest lavender and herb farms. This vibrant spot is perfect for a family day out, with its fragrant herbs and play areas providing fun for kids big and small.
