At the junction of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale, the pretty Yorkshire Dales village of Reeth is set around a spacious green and is the perfect place to stretch your legs and breathe the fresh air. The village offers a warm dales welcome to all who enjoy the outdoors, with great pubs and cafés serving delicious homemade cakes and meals.
The village is surrounded by the stunning landscape of Upper Swaledale known for its picture postcard views of field barns and dry-stone walls. The nearby hay meadows are a burst of colour in the summer months when the wildflowers are in full bloom.
Reeth sits under the dramatic ridge of Fremington Edge, a three-mile limestone escarpment and a popular walking destination and cycling challenge. The area is particularly popular for mountain biking and the Ard Rock Enduro Mountain Bike Festival, the largest event of its kind in the UK, takes place on the surrounding hills every summer.
The 20km Swale Trail starts in Reeth and is a great way to see the countryside by bike.
The historic lead mining industry of the area can be explored at the Swaledale Museum, and the Agricultural Show in August celebrates the farming community in this part of the Yorkshire Dales.
