Spa heritage

Relax and unwind at the Turkish Baths Harrogate soaking up the spa history in the hot rooms, plunge pool and relaxation room. Feeling rejuvenated, visit the Royal Pump Room Museum next to discover the story of Harrogate’s famous waters as you walk in the footsteps of those who came to the town for healing treatments.

Discover the cultural highlights of Harrogate

The Mercer Art Gallery is an incredibly beautiful early nineteenth century building which was originally the spa promenade rooms, then a theatre and town hall before becoming an art gallery in 1991.  The changing exhibition programme means there’s always something different to see.

Catch a show at the Harrogate Theatre or the Royal Hall and enjoy an evening of entertainment in beautiful Victorian surroundings.

Explore historic buildings and idyllic gardens

Visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden near Ripon, twelve miles from Harrogate and accessible by bus and explore the largest monastic ruins in the UK together with the exquisite 18th century water garden, with ponds, statutes and natural features.

Explore Newby Hall and Gardens, also located near Ripon, with a tour of the house and see the gardens on foot or by train, including the recently re-opened historic rock garden. The dolls house and teddy bear collections are not to be missed and there’s a great adventure playground if you have little ones with you.

North Yorkshire is blessed with wonderful gardens and outdoor spaces so it’s easy to get your floral fix whatever time of the year you visit, however the summer colours are not to be missed. Explore the 56 acres of RHS Garden Harlow Carr on the outskirts of Harrogate with beautifully planted beds full of colour, the Alpine House and woodland.

Spend time at the Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park between Ripon and Masham which sits in its own microclimate and is home to the blue Meconopsis poppy. Pretty red bridges criss cross the gardens, and the sculptures dotted around are visually pleasing additions.

Go with the flow in Knaresborough

Head to this medieval market town and discover its history in the Castle and Courthouse Museum. After looking at the view across the river from the Castle grounds, stroll along by the riverside, treat yourself to an ice cream and enjoy rowing on the river.
