Horticultural Heaven in Helmsley

Tucked away behind the bustling market town, Helmsley Walled Garden really is something special. Surrounded by the magnificent Duncombe Park landscape and overlooked by Helmsley Castle. You’ll be transported to a world of your own as you wander through the rows of blooms in this RHS-Partner Garden.

Visit in the summer months and you’ll be wowed by the impressive 100m double herbaceous border that hits its peak in August. But there is always something to see from apple blossom in April, tulips, irises and the Laburnum Arch in May, roses and peonies in June, through to apple harvest in August and the autumn glow of the Hot Border in October.

Peaceful reflections at the priory

Nestled at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, Mount Grace Priory is one of the best-preserved Carthusian Priory ruins in England. Here history and tranquil outdoor space go hand in hand.  Exploring the Priory, House and Gardens is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Wander through the surviving tower and the great cloister and peek at the reconstructed monk’s cell to discover what made the layout of Mount Grace Priory so unique.

Whatever time of year you visit, you can delight in the floral spectacle of the arts and crafts garden, which has been recently renovated by celebrated gardener Chris Beardshaw. See bluebells in the spring, elegant roses in Summer, vibrant reds of the Japanese Acers in Autumn, and delicate snowdrops in winter.
