There are large-scale events such as the Great Yorkshire Show right through to unique events, and the annual events calendar across North Yorkshire celebrates our interesting culture, fascinating history and all that defines this unique part of the county.

Harrogate Spring Flower Show
One of the most popular horticultural shows of the season, Harrogate Flower Shows stage the very best in all things gardening and horticulture. From spectacular plant nursery displays and floral features to talks and demonstrations – plus great garden shopping opportunities – this is the perfect day out for gardeners.

Whitby Fish and Ships Festival
Head to the coast for a celebration of Whitby’s fishing heritage past, present and future with live music and cookery demonstrations, stalls, family entertainment, tours and exhibitions. Sample delicious seafood, pick up new recipes, and enjoy live street entertainment.

The Great Knaresborough Bed Race
For a unique day out, put the Great Knaresborough Bed Race in your diary in June. This fundraising event was first held in 1966 and sees teams set off from Knaresborough Castle on an arduous 2.4-mile course running through Nidd Gorge, over scenic parkland and the town centre before a final 30-yard swim through the ever-icy waters of the River Nidd. A gruelling athletic challenge but a fun day out for all those involved – especially those watching the spectacle!

Ripon Theatre Festival
Five days of drama, street theatre, children’s shows, circus, comedy, dance, puppetry, storytelling and much more in the gorgeous city of Ripon. There will be performances and fun events for all ages with a blockbuster jamboree. Local groups will also be able to join in the fun over the festival weekend taking part in city-centre pop-up performances or entertaining families in Ripon Spa Gardens.

Great Yorkshire Show
An iconic four-day event and one of the biggest agricultural events in the English Calendar, the Great Yorkshire Show takes place in July. Visitors can expect so much more than an agricultural show with first-class entertainment, national breed competitions and a celebration of the absolute best of farming, food and countryside.

The Scarborough Fair
Step into a world of arts, culture, sports and entertainment with The Scarborough Fair. From 30 May - 1 June, Scarborough Streets will bring street theatre, live music and dance performances to the town centre. Dive into the Scarborough Fringe between 13 - 22 June, where theatre, music, and comedy await to entertain all ages, and celebrate local creativity with exhibitions and workshops from Scarborough Art from 5 July - 3 August. For thrill-seekers, Scarborough Extreme from 12 - 14 July offers adrenaline-pumping spectacles, sports activities and taster sessions, while Scarborough Lights promises dazzling displays and winter illuminations between 14 November - 21 December.

Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival
For one July weekend the world’s hottest crime writers swing into Harrogate for a gathering of writing professionals and enthusiasts, authors and readers. At this friendly festival you can enjoy a busy programme of special guests, panel discussions and entertainment, celebrating crime fiction and the crime writing industry. Full programming announcements will be revealed nearer the time but expect to see a world class line-up of the biggest names and exciting talent in crime fiction.

Long Course Weekend: Yorkshire
Set in Masham, the Long Course Weekend is expected to bring over 5,000 athletes, 20,000 supporters from 30 nations to compete over three incredible days in August. Competitors will be swimming in the beautiful Grimwith Reservoir, cycling on either 56 or 112 mile courses around the stunning dales, before finishing on Sunday with a range of running events from a 5k right through to a marathon distance through the spectacular countryside before the crowds will line the streets for the red-carpet finish line.

Wensleydale Cheese Festival
Get ready to indulge in the finest local produce at the Wensleydale Cheese Festival, held in October 2025. This annual event showcases the rich tradition of cheese-making in the Yorkshire Dales, with local businesses hosting special events, tastings, and menus throughout the National Park.
Explore a variety of activities, from cookery courses and dining experiences to demos using local produce. Sample delicious cheeses, Yorkshire gin and ales, dairy ice creams, sorbets, jams, jellies, chutneys, and locally-reared meat.

Marathon du Malton
Get ready for a fun-filled day at the Marathon du Malton! This isn't your typical race—it's a "gourmet wineathlon" inspired by France's Marathon du Medoc. Run or walk through the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, enjoying delicious local food and drink along the way, plus live music, entertainment, and tasty treats. Lace up your shoes, grab your friends, and join us for a day of fun and flavour.

Dark Skies Fringe Festival, National Parks

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Dark Skies Festival in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. These parks have earned their status as International Dark Sky Reserves, offering breath-taking views of the Milky Way, planets, and even the Northern Lights.
Join us for a variety of night-time activities designed to awaken your senses. Experience the thrill of night runs, canoeing, and night navigation. Enhance your skills with astrophotography workshops, or embark on stargazing safaris. For families, there are children's daytime trails, art workshops, and mindful experiences to enjoy.
