Day one: arrive at your accommodation

Humble Bee Farm

Take your glamping to the next level at Humble Bee Farm in the Yorkshire Wolds. Book a nomadic yurt or Wigwam timber lodge or cabin, your home away from home with everything you need to enjoy a stress-free week away.

Enjoy al fresco eating with outdoor seating and a BBQ and stay warm by the fire bowl or hop in the hot tub. There are lots of children’s events on site during the summer holidays too.

Day two:

Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

Enjoy a day out at Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park which is set across five acres. You can see lots of different animals and birds including meerkats, parrots, rabbits, tortoises, owls, donkeys, lemurs, lizards and alpacas. Listen to daily keeper talks to find out more about the animals, and you can even feed them at feeding time.

Enjoy exploring the gardens, including the interactive sensory garden and the secret garden where you will find chipmunks playfully having fun. The woodland trail, willow tunnel and play park will delight children as well as letting them burn off lots of energy.

Day three: first stop:

Castle Howard

Have a great morning of fun as you explore the house and grounds. Children can play in the Skelf Island adventure playground, try hide and seek in the gardens and look for birds and insects.

The Boathouse Cafe is great for families, and the menu includes sandwiches, burgers, pizza and hotdogs or you can enjoy a picnic in the grounds.

Over the school holidays, children can try clay crafting or take part in Rover’s Grand Tour and learn all about him as you go around the house.

Next stop:

The Yorkshire Arboretum

The nearby Yorkshire Arboretum is home to red squirrels so you can spend time spotting them. Children can explore the parkland and take part in nature events including pond dipping, mini beasts and being a nature ranger to learn more about the natural environment around them.

Throughout the school holidays, children can join Quercy to find out more about the trees they see as well as joining in with craft activities.

Day four: first stop:

Scarborough Castle

Visit a castle with spectacular views of the sea. Walk around the ruins of Scarborough Castle and go to the viewing platforms in the inner bailey and great tower for views over the bay, town and harbour. Follow the free audio tour to learn about 3000 years of history and visit their exhibition with artefacts including a bronze age sword and Civil War cannonball.

Spread out a picnic rug on the headland and play some games. Summer holiday events include fairy hunting, dinosaur quests and circus skills.

Next stop:

Scarborough North Bay Railway

Enjoy a 30-minute journey on Britain's biggest miniature railway which runs alongside the North Bay in Scarborough. Children can pick up a free Percy the Cat activity sheet to complete as they look out for all the landmarks on the journey.

Skytrail is a 20ft high rope bridge and beam course which is perfect for your little daredevils, and the Victorian water chute is great fun for everyone as you whizz down the ramp to the lake.

Afternoon: First stop:

Rotunda Museum, Scarborough

Spend a few hours at the fascinating Rotunda Museum, the Museum of Coastal Heritage and Geology. Learn about the Yorkshire coastline and the fossils that have been found here over the centuries.

The Ancient Seas Gallery is home to historic creatures that were once found along this stretch of coastline including Meg the Megalosaurus. There are great children's activity events taking place over the summer holidays.

Next stop:

Scarborough Footgolf

Finish the day with a round of footgolf, a mix of golf and football which is great fun for all the family. There are three courses to choose from – the standard footgolf course, adventure footgolf with obstacles set out in woodland and mini footgolf.

Or try footpool – a giant pool table marked out in the grass with footballs replacing the pool balls. Who will win the battle of the family and come out victorious. This is such a fun way to end the day.

Day 5: morning:

Eden Camp Modern History Museum

History comes to life at Eden Camp. Be transported back to wartime Britain as you are immersed in the sights, smells and sounds of the Second World War. Experience the Blitz, the Battle of Britain as well as other conflicts.

See the collection of military vehicles including tanks and aircraft and sit in an air raid shelter. Enjoy lunch in the NAAFI Cafe before the children tackle the junior assault course and have fun in the play area.

Afternoon:

Go Ape at Dalby Forest

Head high up into the trees at Go Ape Dalby Forest and enjoy an afternoon of adventure as you swing between trees and walk across the wobbly bridges.

Older children and adults can tackle the Treetop Challenge featuring zip lines, Tarzan swings and high rope crossings. Younger children can try the Treetop Adventure with twenty-four obstacles to tackle.

Day six: Morning

Ryedale Folk Museum

The open-air museum is home to more than twenty heritage buildings including the Manor House, crofter’s cottage and the roundhouse which is modelled on an Iron Age dwelling. There are lots of interactive exhibits including the old school room and Daylight Photographic Studio where you can pose for a photo Edwardian style.

Try old-fashioned games such as stick and hoops and feed the animals in the farming area. Look out for the Hobs over the summer holidays and see how many of these moorland creatures you can count

Afternoon:

Pickering Castle

Children can be brave knights, powerful kings or wealthy princesses for the day as they explore this 12th century castle. Climb the motte stairway for fantastic views and walk around the ruins while the chapel exhibition tells the history of the castle.

Enjoy a picnic in the grounds and call into the shop for some castle-themed souvenirs.

Day seven:

SEA LIFE Scarborough

Immerse yourself in the amazing world of the ocean and come face to face with some of its inhabitants. Walk through the ocean tunnel as sharks and rays swim all around you. Meet the Humboldt penguins, visit the seal hospital and see the friendly otters.

Enter the Kingdom of the Seahorses, home to some of the ocean's tiniest but most incredible creatures and go on a rainforest adventure before burning off energy in the adventure playground.
