Day One: Book into your accommodation

Woodland Lakes Lodges

Book into your lodge by the lake for a week of holiday fun with all the family. There are great activities onsite to try including soft archery, fishing and body zorbing as well as an indoor swimming pool. There’s a large indoor playground plus a play area outside where you can also try your hand at disc golf.

The Olive Tree Café and Restaurant has lots of tasty options, or you can visit one of the nearby villages or and towns for a pub lunch or dinner. This is the perfect base for your holiday.

Note: be water safe and always supervise children near the lake

Day Two:

Knaresborough

Spend the day exploring the medieval market town of Knaresborough and enjoy a great family day out. Discover magic and mystery at Mother Shipton’s Cave where kids can have fun in the woodland playground and visit Oz during the summer holidays.

Knaresborough Castle sits high on the crag on the opposite side of the river. See the Kings Tower including the dungeon, learn about the town’s history in the museum and have a go at putting in the grounds. Finish your day with a row on the river and an ice cream.

Day Three: Morning

Kiplin Hall

Home to 400 years of history, this Jacobean Hall near Richmond and its grounds are perfect for families to explore. There’s a great family activity room in the hall and children can follow the trails and play outdoor games around the grounds - everything you need can be collected from reception.

Try pond dipping and see what little creatures you can find before playing in the fantastic natural play area. Head to the café for lunch and refuel for the afternoon.

Day Three: Afternoon

Richmond

While away the hours exploring this pretty market town . Discover history at the Castle and the Green Howards Museum where you can join in the ‘Christmas in July’ events with lots of activities to try including making a Christmas football bauble and find the hidden flip flops to decipher the code.

Grab an ice cream or a slice of cake at The Station before walking to Easby Abbey along the old railway line. The marketplace is surrounded by independent shops and charming tearooms if you need some sustenance after your walk.

Day Four:

Ingleborough Cave and Nature Trail

Park in the pay and display car park in the village of Clapham. There’s a playground nearby and at the top of the village is the entrance to the Ingleborough Nature Trail. If you’re feeling peckish, call into the Sawmill Café for refreshments before starting the walk through the nature trail to the entrance of Ingleborough Cave. Look out for the mythical Mimpish Squimbies along the way.

Once at the cave, make your way 500 metres underground to discover this magical subterranean world.

Day Five: Morning

Dales Countryside Museum

This museum in the centre of Hawes is full of fascinating interactive exhibits and displays about the history of this part of the Yorkshire Dales and admission is free for under 16s.

There are lots of family events too including craft workshops and hands-on history workshops, many of which are free for kids. The Mini Museum is a great children’s role-playing space where they can pretend to be a museum worker. Outside, explore the outdoor trail with its bug hotel and storytelling chair.

Day Five: Afternoon

Wensleydale Creamery

Discover the amazing world of cheese at the Wensleydale Creamery. Children can join the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience for free every weekend and during the school holidays. See how the cheese is made during the demonstration and find out about the history of cheesemaking.

There are lots of interactive activities to try including the new Find Feathers trail quiz and look out for the life-sized knitted Wallace and Gromit. There is also a play area for little ones.

Day Six:

Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

Children can enjoy the excitement of travelling on a steam train through the countryside on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. Watch the train pull into the station before climbing aboard for the journey.

There’s a coffee shop at the Embsay Station and a tearoom at the Bolton Abbey Station where you can enjoy sandwiches, cakes and drinks.

Day Seven:

RHS Garden Harlow Carr

The gardens are a great place to go for a lovely family day out with so much for children to do. Have outdoor fun in the Craggle Top Tree House and Logness Monster. Explore the woodland and gardens and see if you can see butterflies and bees.

This year, step into the world of ‘Wind in the Willows’ with a family trail around the garden plus the Big Picnic takes place on 4 July.

Enjoy refreshments at Bettys Café Tea Rooms or The Harrogate Arms Café in the gardens and call into the shop at the end of your visit.
