Hike Yorkshire
Veteran-led guided walks, town walking tours and outdoor experiences across the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and coast.
About Hike Yorkshire
Hike Yorkshire is a veteran-led outdoor company. Our guides served in the Royal Marines and British Army, and we share the landscapes, history and wildlife of North Yorkshire with people of all abilities.
Hikes
Our guides can show you well known and loved routes, such as the Dales way, or take you off the beaten track and deep into the Yorkshire countryside. We also organise multi-day walking holidays, with everything taken care of by us from start to finish.
Walking Tours
Our walking tours include towns and villages, such as Skipton and Ripon, and iconic moorland such as Malham Cove.
Foraging Courses
A two hour beginners' course in Yorkshire woodland, in small groups. Learn to read a woodland, identify common Yorkshire mushrooms where they grow, and tell edible species from their toxic lookalikes. Gift vouchers available.
Navigation Courses
Learn to use a map and compass properly, taught in the field by experienced instructors. Beginner and advanced courses cover grid references, bearings, contours and finding your position, through to night navigation.
Outdoor Experiences
Tailored days for companies, charities and private groups, including team development, archaeology digs, Moors Murder Mystery, bird watching, digital detox and star-gazing.
More Skills
First aid, fieldcraft and survival courses for walkers who want the confidence to look after themselves and others in the hills.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need any experience to join a walk or course?
Our town walking tours and beginners' courses are suitable for all abilities, and each tour page explains how long and how strenuous it is, so you can choose what suits you.
- What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes or walking boots with a good grip, a waterproof jacket, a warm layer and some water. We send a reminder with anything specific to your activity the day before.
- What happens if the weather is bad?
We run in most weather, as Yorkshire can be unpredictable. If conditions make it genuinely unsafe, we'll contact you to rearrange or give you a full refund.
- Can I book a private walk or a day for my group or company?
Yes. We run tailored days for families, friends, charities and companies, from guided walks to navigation, foraging and team development.
- Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes, gift vouchers for our foraging course are available to buy online and are valid for twelve months. They're sent by email, ready to print or forward.
