About This Experience
The Walk
Devised by Alfred Wainwright and now a National Trail, the Coast to Coast crosses northern England from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea, through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Tradition says you carry a pebble from one coast and throw it into the sea at the other.
Walk It Your Way
We split the route into three sections of around five days each: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Walk one at a time over several years, or put them together for the full crossing.
Everything Arranged for You
We book your accommodation in comfortable local B&Bs and inns along the route, and your luggage is moved between each night’s stop. Breakfast is included at most places, packed lunches can be arranged, and we can organise transfers to the start and from the finish of each section.
Guided or Self-Guided
A Hike Yorkshire guide walks with you every day, handling the navigation across high fells and remote moorland. Our guides are experienced, and include qualified Mountain Leaders. If you would rather walk on your own, we can set you up self-guided, with our team meeting you at checkpoints to resupply.
Through Yorkshire
In the Dales, the route crosses the Pennine watershed at Nine Standards Rigg and follows Swaledale through Keld and Reeth to Richmond and its Norman castle. On the North York Moors it runs along the Cleveland Hills, over Blakey Ridge and down the Esk valley, before the final descent into Robin Hood’s Bay.
Who It Suits
Regular hill walkers comfortable with long days on consecutive days. The Lake District section is the most demanding, and daily stages are typically between 12 and 16 miles.
Good to Know
Prices start from £975 per person for each five day section. Every trip is tailored, so the final price depends on group size, number of sections, guided or self-guided walking, food requirements and transfers.
