About Ampleforth Abbey
Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a Community of Benedictine monks since 1802. The Abbey Church is the centre of monastic life and everyone is welcome to join the Community for Mass and the Divine Office. The Abbey Church, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, is open to visitors who might like to look around. The Abbey is enriched with beautiful oak pieces crafted by Robert Thompson, and stained glass by Patrick and John Reyntiens. The Ampleforth valley is stunningly beautiful. The Abbey is situated on a variety of levels on an estate of over 1,200 acres within the Howardian Hills National Landscape bounded by the North York Moors National Park. Visitors are welcome to explore the beautiful lakes, trails and woodlands or visit the Abbey's orchard. Alban Roe House Visitor Centre with Tea Room, Abbey Shop, Visitor Centre and accommodation is open 7 days a week, 10.00-17.00, serving fresh homemade breakfast rolls, lunches, cakes and Ampleforth Abbey cider and apple juice. Dogs are welcome in the grounds – assistance dogs only in the Tea Room. The Abbey Church and grounds are always open to visitors, walkers and cyclists. Entry is free. Plentiful parking with EV charging. Please visit our website for more information. Visitor Centre, Shop & Tea Room: Spring/Summer: Open 7 days (closed Good Friday) 10am - 5pm. Autumn/Winter: Weds-Sun 11am - 3pm (in line with daylight saving, excluding half terms, check social media for Christmas & New Year opening).
