Itinerary Schedule
The Inn on the Moor
Check in to your accommodation in the heart of pretty Goathland. This country hotel is your home for the next few days and with comfy rooms you will enjoy a relaxing break. Spend the rest of the day exploring Goathland, unwind in your room or relax in the garden with a drink. The bar area is open for craft beers, cocktails and soft drinks or enjoy some homemade cake curled up by the fire. Finish the day with a meal from the menu filled with dishes made using local produce.
Malton
Head to Malton and explore the foodie spots in this market town. Talbot Yard food court is where you can discover artisan coffee, patisserie and butchers and the Rare Bird Distillery. As you wander through the little streets call into the many independent food and drink shops and purchase some amazing local produce to take away with you.
The Whole Hogg Farm Shop and Tearoom
Situated near the River Derwent, the Whole Hogg Farm Shop and Tearoom is located in a converted shed. Sit and enjoy a late morning coffee and cake or stay for longer and have lunch. The dishes are homemade using local ingredients and the smell of freshly baked scones and cakes will be too tempting to resist. Whether you prefer a light lunch or a hearty dish, you have a great choice here. Menus change seasonally.
Ryedale Vineyards
Spend the afternoon at one of the most northerly vineyards in the UK. The whole process of wine production from harvesting to bottling is done by hand in a converted cow byre. Join a tour at 3pm (available from March 2026) to find out about wine production at the vineyard. You will be taken on a walk around the vines by a winemaker and enjoy a wine tasting paired with local cheeses.
The Great Yorkshire Brewery - The New Inn & Cropton Brewery
Book a tour of this micro-brewery and learn how the team produce award-winning beer and ales. Expert guides will show you the skill that has gone into the brewing process for centuries. The tour includes a pint of their real ale or a bottle to take home with you. Find out more in the visitor centre before browsing around the shop where you can buy souvenirs and choose from a range of their beers for later including Monkmans Slaughter and Blackout.
Mallyan Spout Hotel
Arrive back in Goathland and enjoy an evening meal at the Mallyan Spout Hotel. Relax in the bar with a pre-dinner drink by the roaring log fire in wintertime or enjoy a cocktail on the lawn in the summer months. The seasonal menu features delicious dishes, and you can finish your meal with a homemade dessert. Choose to eat in either the Valley View Restaurant or the Spout Bar.
Ampleforth Abbey tearoom
Spend the morning exploring the scenic moors on your way to the majestic Ampleforth Abbey for afternoon tea. Situated a short walk from the abbey, you can enjoy views across the valley as you sit in the oak-panelled tearoom. Your afternoon tea includes freshly made sandwiches and homemade cakes accompanied by scones with jam and cream, a delicious afternoon treat whether you are a cream first or jam first person.
Booking is required – email at least 24 hours in advance to book.
Black Swan at Oldstead
Finish your weekend with a tasting menu at the Black Swan at Oldstead. Start your evening with a pre-dinner drink in the bar with its stone-flagged floor and oak tables. Run by Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks, the seasonal tasting menu exclusively features land-based ingredients and produce grown, harvested and reared on their own land plus locally foraged ingredients. Modern gastronomy and culinary creativity at its best.
Explore the moors further
Extend your stay and book into the Black Swan at Oldstead for a few days and explore what else the moors have to offer. Choose a room next to the restaurant or in The Villa, a nearby Georgian house. You will find period features and each room has a free-standing roll-top bath for that added luxury. Start the next day with a hearty breakfast before planning your foodie destinations for the day.
