No trip to this part of the world would be complete without a visit to Whitby, arguably one of the England's most famous seaside towns. Known for its connections to Bram Stoker's Dracula, Whitby is packed with history, character and plenty of stories waiting to be discovered.

Spend the morning wandering the cobbled streets, browsing independent shops filled with handmade gifts, local produce and sweet treats. Take a stroll along the pier, watch fishing boats return to harbour, and soak up the atmosphere of this charming coastal town. When lunchtime arrives, there's only one thing for it: fish and chips by the sea. Just keep an eye out for the seagulls!

The afternoon is yours to explore as you wish. Climb the famous 199 Steps to Whitby Abbey, where dramatic clifftop views and centuries of history await. If you'd rather experience the coast from the water, join a whale and wildlife-watching boat trip. These excursions run at certain times of the year, so it's worth planning ahead.

For a more relaxed afternoon, head to Whitby Distillery. It's a unique experience and something a little different to add to your getaway. Take a guided tour, sample their award-winning spirits, and discover how locally inspired botanicals, including heather from the North York Moors and sugar kelp from the Yorkshire coast, are used to create their distinctive gins. Pick up a bottle to remind you of your trip long after you've returned home.
