A day at the seaside is the perfect way to enjoy family time all together. Arrive early to watch the sunrise or enjoy a relaxed start to the day with a late breakfast before heading to the beach, however you choose to spend the day, you’re sure to have the best time with our one-day itinerary.

Morning:

Filey Zoo

Visit Filey Zoo where you can explore the five-acres of parkland and gardens and meet the animals that live here. There are over seventy-five species to say hello to including the mischievous meerkats.

There are daily keeper talks so you can find out more about the different animals you see on your visit, plus daily feeding sessions offer a close-up, hands-on experience. The formal gardens are home to smaller birds and look out for the colourful parrots, too, while the Reptile Realm is home to all things scaly.

Lunch:

Thirty Coffee Shop & Eatery

Call into the Thirty Coffee Shop & Eatery for lunch and fuel up ready for an afternoon of more family adventures. Choose to sit inside or grab a table outside in the fresh air.

There’s a great choice of light bites for lunch, plus yummy cakes and pastries and refreshing drinks including milkshakes and iced lattes – perfect on a hot sunny day.

Scarborough Footgolf

Just a 10-minute drive away near Cayton, play golf with a difference at this great family attraction between Scarborough and Filey. Try the traditional Footgolf course or the shorter Adventure Footgolf course with obstacles to test your skills, while the Mini Footgolf is perfect for little legs.

Giant Footpool tables add to the fun so why not have a little friendly family competition?

Afternoon:

Scarborough Castle

Head into the seaside resort of Scarborough where you can spend a few hours surrounded by history at Scarborough Castle perched high on the headland. With amazing views of the sea and both Bays, it’s easy to see why a fortification was built here.

Explore the Inner Bailey and Great Tower and climb up to the viewing area on the battlements. The huge grassy area is the perfect place for kids to burn off some energy, and you can grab some refreshments at the coffee shed. There are lots of children’s activities happening over the school holidays, too.

Evening:

The Plough Pub & Restaurant

Finish your day out at the coast with a family dinner at The Plough Pub & Restaurant in the nearby village of Scalby. This pretty village pub is full of character with a reputation for great food.

Try some tapas as an appetiser or enjoy a taste of the sea with fish pie or traditional fish and chips. There is a separate children’s menu, too, plus delicious puds if you still have room. What a great way to end your seaside adventures.
