Itinerary Schedule
Arrive in Ripon
Kick-start your weekend in Ripon, one of England’s tiniest cities packed with personality and charm. Start the morning on Kirkgate' this bunting covered street is lined with cute cafés, quirky shops and leads you straight to Ripon Cathedral.
The Cathedral is free to enter and definitely worth the visit if you love history. Dating back to 672 AD, this magnificent building is filled with hidden treasures and architecture that can be appreciated by all.
If the weather allows, take a riverside walk along the River Skell then head to North Street for some retail therapy. Escape into quaint shops, discover vintage treasures or find the perfect gift for someone special.
Check in at Swinton Estate
After lunch, arrive at Swinton Estate your home for the next few days.
Live out your very own fairy-tale at Swinton Park Hotel. With rooms fit for royalty this Grade II listed Castle should be on everyone's bucket list. You could also stay at Swinton Bivouac, with a choice of your very own Yurt nestled within the wildflower meadows or an authentic Tree Lodge with a private log-fired hot tub. Both feature spectacular views and a magical experience to remember.
If you visit before 22 February 2026, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in Luminescence – A Winter Light Trail. Follow a magical mile-long light trail, that will be sure to brighten your evening. Swinton Park Hotel has a selection of bars and restaurants for you to indulge in and raise your glass to a wonderful weekend.
Head out for some fresh air
Will you be up and chasing sunrise, or is a slow, cosy morning more your vibe? Either way, with 200 acres of heritage parkland and gardens to wander through, you can ease into the day at your own pace - then wrap up warm and head out for some fresh‑air.
Our favourite walking route takes you to Druid's Temple – and while it looks like an ancient stone circle, it’s not actually prehistoric at all. It’s a nineteenth‑century folly, commissioned by William Danby, former owner of Swinton Estate, it's a must-see while you’re here.
From riverside strolls to bracing hikes, here’s some popular routes to explore: Coffin Pond Walk, Top Lake Walk, Masham and Swinton Circular.
An afternoon in Masham
Depending on how many times you stop for “just one more photo”, the market town of Masham is about a 30‑minute walk from Swinton Estate and just five minutes by car.
Once you arrive, it must be time for an afternoon treat? Fancy a deli sandwich, coffee and cake, or a hearty pub lunch? Wander the little streets around the market square and find your favourite. If you happen to visit on a market day (Wednesdays and Saturdays), browse local goodies and maybe even find the perfect memento to take home.
Home to generations of brewing heritage, Masham boasts two breweries and a gin distillery so you can take a tour and enjoy a little tasting while you’re here.
Swinton country club
After a busy weekend, what better way to spend your morning - or even the whole day? Swinton Country Club, one of the UK’s leading spa destinations, is the perfect place to switch off and sink into some well‑deserved self‑care.
With calming relaxation spaces, extensive pool areas and soothing thermal facilities, you’ll find it very hard to leave.
Treat yourself to a therapeutic deep‑tissue massage, a revitalising facial, or simply enjoy the luxury of peace and quiet, away from the rush of everyday life.
Beningbrough Hall - National Trust
Before you head home, why not fill your afternoon with elegant architecture, immersive art and sweeping parkland views. Step inside the 18th‑century Beningbrough Hall - National Trust and uncover the stories behind its legacy.
Don't miss the current exhibition, Whispers of the Wilderness: Exploring Wilderness Gardens, running until 12 April 2026 - experience a world where art and nature intertwine.
Even in winter, the gardens are a beautiful space to explore - be sure to keep an eye out for squirrels and those first hints of spring! Afterwards, get cosy in the restaurant with a hot chocolate and tasty homemade lunch.
Please check winter opening times before you travel.
