Swinton Bivouac

At Swinton Bivouac we love all things luxurious and rustic, sustainable and thoughtful. The site is located three miles from Masham in the sweeping landscape of the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate in the Yorkshire Dales. The local landmark of Druid’s Temple, an intriguing 18th century folly, is located in the woodland adjacent to Bivouac. This off-grid accommodation consists of six Tree Lodges and seven Meadow Yurts, above the reception area is the cosy Loft.

Try our Tree Lodges

Our gorgeous, secluded Tree Lodges are tucked away in woodland, a five-minute walk from the Bivouac Café and provide a truly authentic, rustic, ‘back to nature’ holiday experience.

Fully furnished with well equipped kitchens, our Tree Lodges sleep up to six people with each lodge having its own log burning stove, cooking facilities, cool box, dining and seating area plus ensuite bathroom with shower and running hot water. For a touch of decadence, each have their own private, log-fired hot tub and guests have the opportunity to enjoy spectacular views from our new ‘woodland sauna’. In addition, guests may also use the shared Tipi covered fire-pit.

Tree Lodges boast sumptuous bed linens, Swinton Estate robes and towels, and plenty of hot water; all are electricity-free and candle-lit for a real off-grid experience. You’ll also have access to our cosy Residents’ Lounge, situated next to the Bivouac Café, warm and cosy with comfy sofas, board games, tea and coffee making facilities and lots of information about the local area.

Meadow Yurts, at Swinton Bivouac

Nestled in the wildflower meadow at Swinton Bivouac is our small group of Yurts. Each has a stunning view across the Swinton Estate and wider Yorkshire Dales, with unlimited blue sky and back-to-nature vibe.

The Yurt field is a short walk from the Bivouac Café where you will also find shower facilities, barbeque areas, plus the Resident’s Lounge (perfect when you need to throw yourself into a deep sofa with a cup of tea, while you browse all the local information!). Next to the Yurt area is a fully stocked communal ‘camp’ kitchen, and the shared, wood-fired hot tub.

Cabin and Medow Yurts sleep up to four people – in our cabin yurts there is a double bed in the Cabin and the yurt there are two single beds. Meanwhile in our meadow yurts there is a double and two single beds. Each yurt has sumptuous bed linens and Swinton Estate robes and towels, private loo, with the shower facilities just a short stroll away. The fully stocked, communal camping kitchen is situated in the Yurt field and we’ll also keep you stocked up with seasoned logs.

All our Yurts are electricity-free, so do remember your torch!

The Loft

On the first floor of our converted farmhouse, The Loft at Swinton Bivouac is accessed by a flight of external stairs leading directly to the apartment.

Sleeping a maximum of six people (two adults and four children), The Loft is a large and airy room with plenty of space for a double/twin bed and a sofa bed, with an
interconnecting room which features a double/twin bed, which also has an en-suite shower room.

The dining table, fridge, relaxed seating area and television make The Loft a wonderful self-contained space, with easy access to the delights of the Bivouac Café. Private outside space with outdoor seating and a BBQ is great for al-fresco dining.

There’s plenty to keep you busy at Swinton Bivouac, whether you’re staying for the night or visiting for an afternoon. From relaxing and admiring the panoramic views, to exploring the many woodland trails and country lanes by bike (with bike hire available!) to collecting fresh eggs for breakfast for the Bivouac Hens.  Swinton Country Club is also just down the road, the perfect addition to a relaxing break in the great outdoors.
