Step into a world where art and nature intertwine in Beningbrough’s most immersive exhibition yet. Whispers of the Wilderness celebrates the hall’s historic Wilderness Garden through a sensory-rich journey of sculpture, sound, scent, and story.
Highlights include:
- Striking willow sculptures by acclaimed artist Laura Ellen Bacon, echoing the wild energy of the garden.
- Historic artworks from the National Trust collection, tracing the 18th-century fascination with wilderness gardens.
- A hands-on drawing studio by artist Tanya Raabe-Webber, inviting visitors of all ages to sketch, relax, and connect with nature.
- Soundscapes, poetry, and literature that bring the garden’s spirit indoors.
This exhibition coincides with the ongoing garden transformation by award-winning designer Andy Sturgeon, making it the perfect time to explore Beningbrough inside and out. Check opening days and time and plan your visit.
Exhibition Talks
The second Friday of the month during - there are specialist led talks.
12 September - Exploring the history of Wilderness Gardens with Dr. Grace Murray.
10 October - Online drawing workshop with artist Tanya Raabe-Webber,
14 November - Willow whispers with artist Laura Ellen Bacon.
12 December - Gyre, a sonic exploration of nature with sound artist Gaia Blandina.
9 January - Drawing with willow, the work of Laura Ellen Bacon with Louise Lohr, Deputy Curator from Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
13 February - Stories piled beneath our feet with National Trust Archaeologist Mark Newman.
13 March - Revitalising the Wilderness Garden at Beningbrough with the Head Gardener.
The talks are free however normal admission charges apply / free to National Trust members.
