A Stay Steeped in Local History

Every room at The Station Inn tells a story. They are thoughtfully named after the historic shanty towns of Batty Moss, which once stood on the surrounding land during the construction of the Ribblehead Viaduct in the 1870s.

Over 3,000 labourers worked on this extraordinary feat of Victorian engineering between 1870 and 1875, living in temporary camps that stretched from just behind the inn to the slopes of Whernside. While those original settlements were harsh and unforgiving, their legacy lives on - both in the landscape and in the names of the rooms you’ll stay in.

Today, the remains of these settlements can still be spotted in the hills, offering a fascinating glimpse into the area’s past.
