About Transformation - Wild Places Art Collective - The Station

An exploration of paintings and photographs that explore relationships with the Earth. When we sit quietly in nature, create stillness inside ourselves, without expectation, that experience becomes transformational.

Wild Places Art Collective is a group of artists, Fiona Johnson, Julie Moorby, Mary Waterfall, who explore their own unique experiences of wild landscapes, and to come together to spark ideas.

Fiona Johnson - Photographer

Believes that things that really matter to us often occur in just a moment in time and yet that flash of beauty, that emotion, that turning point will remain with us forever. She takes photographs because she likes to play and explore and lose herself in looking, and never fails to find the magic even in the simplest and sometimes most fleeting of things.

Julie Moorby - Mixed media artist

Julie draws on the raw beauty, magic and mystery of mother earth and the skies above. Hinting at deep held secrets and forgotten times her symbolic use of the spiral aims to reflect the connection of all living things and the timeless power and energy that flows within a constantly shifting and evolving landscape.

Whilst roaming with her dog in the rugged Yorkshire Dales, she finds inspiration amongst the standing stones and rocky crags, sitting quietly under wise old trees or by streams and rivers and in tiny worlds on moss covered rocks and fallen branches.

Here she sees and feels the incredible essence and energy of life and the mind is free to imagine, remember, create and give thanks.

Mary Waterfall - Pastel Artist

Mary Paints using soft pastel, an amazing medium for capturing the glow of colour you find in nature. Each stick is pure pigment, which lends itself to many different techniques, sometimes using alcohol to melt the pastel for underpainting. She adds lighter colours over darker shades to create pops of colour, sparkles and intricate details.

She works at the edges of time: sunrise, sunset, cloud formation, moonlight, the curl and break of a wave, dapples of light on water, rays of light on beaches and mountains. Her painting celebrates brief moments of pure joy, freedom and the realisation that she is a tiny, tiny passenger in this vast universe.
