Wild Places - Matt Scott - The Station

Exploring the natural landscapes of northern England in watercolour and oil.

‘Wild Places’ is an exploration of the landscapes of northern England (notably those of the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale, North York Moors and Lake District), inspired by the views Matt observes while hiking with his beagle, Charlie. The north of England is a relatively small place, yet there are so many parts of it that make you feel like you are out in the wilderness. Matt hopes to capture that feeling of beauty and isolation in this exhibition and encourage others to explore the ‘wild places’ on our doorstep.

Matt works in both watercolour and oil, using an expressive style to emphasise changes in light and weather. He uses a combination of memories and photographs to evoke the feel and atmosphere of the places he visits, being particularly interested in the changes seen in nature from season to season.
