Big Ideas by the Sea

Returning in May 2026, Big Ideas by the Sea brings concerts, exhibitions, workshops, walks and, of course, the Scarborough Big Dig - our innovative community archaeology project in Paradise and beyond. There will be several other Scarborough 400 themed events during the festival: the premiere of a song and performance piece about Scarborough people and places; a talk in and about the Grand Hotel with tours of the hotel; a community archaeology symposium; a talk and exhibition about the theatre in the round in Scarborough Library; a photographic exhibition about the Marvels; and much much more. Seaside Heritage Network "Big Day Out" Friday 18th September

On Friday 18th September the Seaside Heritage Network in collaboration with Big Ideas By The Sea will bring their Big Day Out conference to the Grand Hotel in Scarborough. You can find out more at https://seasideheritage.org.uk/ .

Little Big Ideas By The Sea Saturday 19th September

Following directly on from the Seaside Heritage Network Big Day Out, you can come along to St Mary's Church to hear all about the 2026 finds from the Big Dig, be entertained with music and poetry, and take part in guided walks around the heritage of Scarborough Old Town.

Historic Towns Trust Map of Scarborough

A map of historic Scarborough is being produced by the Historic Towns Trust working with a dedicated group of local researchers. The map will be launched in autumn 2026.
