The North York Moors is a landscape of open moorland, forests and picturesque villages. Enjoy the many different aspects of this beautiful part of North Yorkshire on your short break.
Visit ancient monuments, grand stately homes and landscaped gardens or experience living history at one of the many museums. Go wild high up in the trees or try delicious food in cosy restaurants and pubs.
The purple landscape in August when the heather is in full bloom is a truly wonderful sight and one not to be missed.
Itinerary Schedule

Grosmont House, Grosmont
Grosmont House bed and breakfast is a late Georgian townhouse in the village of Grosmont. The house retains lots of period features, and you will experience a relaxing and cosy stay.

Eden Camp Modern History Museum, near Malton
See history come alive at Eden Camp Modern History Museum. Originally a prisoner of war camp in the Second World War, this living museum tells the story of different aspects of the war in each of the huts. Experience the Blitz, learn how Bomber Command operated and see how VE Day was celebrated.
Alongside this, there are displays of the First World War, tanks and air raid shelters. Immerse yourself in the 1940s and enjoy tea and cake in the NAAFI.

Hole of Horcum, near Pickering
The Hole of Horcum near Pickering is a stunning natural feature on the North York Moors. Its shape is akin to an amphitheatre and offers amazing views over the countryside.
The Levisham Moor and Hole of Horcum Walk is a 5-mile scenic circular walk over Levisham Moor where you can see archeological remains from the Bronze and Iron ages. A detour to see Skelton Tower allows you to take in views of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Go Ape Dalby Forest
If you have a head for heights, spend the afternoon swinging high up in the trees at Go Ape Dalby Forest. Choose from two high rope activities.
The Treetop Challenge is a 2–3-hour adventure through the tree canopy featuring free-fall Tarzan swings and high speed zipwires.
The Treetop Adventure is gentler with wobble bridges, crossings between the trees and a zipwire finish. Your adventure starts at the top of the rope ladder.

The Great Yorkshire Brewery, Cropton
North Yorkshire is known for its breweries and if you have a passion for beer, you can take a tour of the microbrewery at The Great Yorkshire Brewery in Cropton. Learn about the process and skills involved in producing their award-winning beers and ales.
Enjoy a pint on the tour and then browse the visitor centre and shop and treat yourself to a couple of bottles to take home.

Ryedale Vineyards, near Malton
North Yorkshire is also home to great vineyards producing award-winning wines. Visit Ryedale Vineyards to the south of Malton and see how the whole wine production process is carried out by hand onsite.
Enjoy a tour with one of the winemakers who will show you around the vineyard before you sample some of their wines paired with local cheeses.

Rievaulx Terrace
Visit the beautiful 18th century Rievaulx Terrace. The landscape is picturesque as you wander through the woods, stroll along the terrace, its bank teaming with wildflowers in summertime.
See the Ionic and Tuscan temples before you set up your picnic and enjoy your al fresco lunch in the sunshine as you take in the views of the abbey in the distance.

Helmsley Walled Garden, Helmsley
If you love to explore gardens that are a little different, then head to Helmsley Walled Garden. The five-acre garden has horticultural highlights throughout the year including tulips and the Laburnum Arch in May, roses and peonies in June and the vivid colours of the Hot Border in autumn.
The garden is run by volunteers and uses sustainable horticultural practices. Look out for the many medicinal herbs in the Physic Garden that were grown by medieval monks and explore the kitchen garden.
