About The Pateley Bridge & Glasshouses Loop

A popular and gentle walk follows the River Nidd downstream from Pateley Bridge, tracing the route of the former Nidd Valley Railway before reaching the village of Glasshouses.

From here, the path loops back along the opposite bank, passing through woodland, open fields, and Victorian farm buildings before arriving in the pretty village of Bewerley. For those looking to extend the route, there’s an optional detour into Fishpond Wood—a recently restored woodland with a tranquil pond that attracts a variety of birdlife.

The walk is mostly level with a good surface on its shorter route, though it does include two short, steep sections—one ascent and one descent.

Nearest town: Pateley Bridge.
Length: 3.75 miles (6km) or 4.75 miles (7.5km).
Time (approx): 1-2 hours.
Difficulty: Easy (moderate if extended)
