Harmby Waterfall

Tucked away just a short walk from the village of Harmby, this small but striking waterfall is one of Wensleydale’s quieter natural attractions. Set within a wooded gorge, Harmby Waterfall flows over a rocky ledge into a shallow pool below, creating a peaceful spot to pause and take in the sounds of running water.

Fed by Harmby Beck, the waterfall is at its best after periods of rain, when the flow is stronger and the cascade is more dramatic. Even in drier conditions, it remains an attractive place for a gentle walk, with the surrounding trees providing shade and seasonal colour throughout the year.

Despite its tranquil setting, Harmby Waterfall is easy to reach and makes a good addition to a visit to nearby Leyburn. A short, well-marked path leads from the edge of the village down to the falls, with steps and handrails helping visitors navigate the descent into the gorge.

Access: Follow footpath signs from Harmby village; the waterfall is about a 10 to15 minute walk from the roadside.

Parking: Limited roadside parking is available in Harmby. Please park considerately and avoid blocking access.

Terrain: The path includes steps and can be damp or slippery, particularly after rain. Sturdy footwear is advisable.

Safety: Take care near the water’s edge and on wet rocks, especially with children.
