Grosmont Station

Step into the world of heritage traction at Grosmont Station, the operational hub of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR). Here, you’ll find the engine sheds where both steam and diesel locomotives are restored and maintained - offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the craftsmanship that keeps the railway running. Walk through the historic George Stephenson tunnel, built in 1835, and you'll discover the atmospheric shed shop. If you're lucky, you might even catch engineers at work on these mighty machines.

Styled to reflect the 1950s, Grosmont Station marks the point where heritage meets the present - connecting the NYMR to the national rail network via the Esk Valley Line to Whitby and Middlesbrough. Whilst visiting the station don’t miss the well-stocked Station Shop and Tea Room which provides a great location to view the end of the heritage line.

Grosmont Station is also the base of the NYMR Pullman Dining Service where visitors can experience an unforgettable meal on board one of our first class parlours. The luxurious carriages are a stylish sanctuary with observation windows perfect for watching the scenery unfold.
