Head out from the seaside town of Scarborough on a thrilling 32-mile explorer route that also offers a great taste of the much longer Moor to Sea Cycle Network.

First you ride north along the former railway line known as the ‘Cinder Track’, before turning south at Ravenscar for the forest sections through Harwood Dale and Langdale to the viewpoint at Highwood Brow. Then return east to Scarborough – enjoying fine views, a beautiful valley and enchanting woodland – along forest roads that are broad, smooth and easy to ride.

About this cycle route

It's easy cycling on the Cinder Track, with a gradual incline and a gravel surface. Otherwise, it's an undulating ride on quiet back roads and forest tracks, with some steep ascents and descents. Alternative start points are Ravenscar or Highwood Brow (where there's a Forestry Commission car park).
