About Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate

A Historic Harrogate Hotel Overlooking the Stray

There are few places to stay in Harrogate with quite the same story as Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate.

Our Grade II listed hotel stands on Park Parade, overlooking the famous 200-acre Stray and within an easy walk of Harrogate town centre. Today it is a comfortable, welcoming four-star hotel, but hospitality on this site stretches back centuries.

Historic England records this as the site of the Queen’s Head Inn, which opened in 1687 and is described as the earliest inn in Harrogate. The present building dates principally from around 1855, with additions made in 1861, and was later known as the Queen Hotel.

It means visitors are staying somewhere that has been welcoming travellers since the early development of Harrogate itself.

The building has changed enormously over the centuries, but hospitality remains at the heart of it.

Stay in the Heart of Harrogate

Cedar Court is ideally placed for discovering Harrogate.

The hotel sits directly opposite the Stray, the 200 acres of protected open grassland that gives Harrogate so much of its character. Step outside and you can be walking across one of the town’s most recognisable landscapes within moments.

Harrogate town centre is around a 10-minute walk away, putting its shops, restaurants, bars and attractions within easy reach while allowing you to stay slightly away from the busiest streets.

Spend the day exploring Harrogate, visit the town’s famous Turkish Baths, enjoy tea and cake at Bettys, discover its independent shops or simply wander through the town before returning to the hotel for dinner and a comfortable night’s sleep.

Harrogate also makes an excellent base for exploring more of North Yorkshire, whether you are heading to nearby Knaresborough or travelling further into the Yorkshire countryside.

Bedrooms Designed for a Great Night’s Sleep

The hotel has 100 bedrooms and suites, with accommodation to suit everything from business trips and short stays to romantic weekends and longer Yorkshire breaks.

All of our bedrooms have been updated within the last ten years, and investment in the hotel continues.

Around half of our bedrooms have undergone a particularly extensive recent refurbishment, creating our new Superior and Deluxe bedroom collection.

Our Superior and Deluxe rooms have been designed with comfort at their heart, with king-size beds, luxurious 2,000 pocket sprung mattresses, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers and thoughtful touches designed to make your stay feel that little bit more special.

Depending on your chosen room, these touches can include garden views, L’OR coffee machines, Harrogate Spa Water, complimentary snacks, Smart TVs and luxury bathroom essentials from The White Company.

Whether Harrogate is somewhere you are visiting for the first time or somewhere you return to every year, we want the bedroom to be somewhere you genuinely look forward to coming back to at the end of the day.

An Independent Hotel That Keeps Evolving

Cedar Court is proudly independently owned, and one of the things that matters most to us is continually reinvesting in our hotels.

Our historic building is part of Harrogate’s story, but we do not believe that history means standing still.

Over recent years we have continued to refurbish and improve bedrooms, dining spaces, guest areas and experiences throughout the hotel. That investment is ongoing.

Being independent gives us the freedom to put money back into making the hotel better, more comfortable and, when it comes to our restaurants, more delicious.

It means you may return to Cedar Court and find something new, whether that is a newly refurbished bedroom, a new dining experience, an improved guest space or another reason to spend a little more time at the hotel.

Eat Well at Amber’s

A stay in Harrogate deserves good food, and you do not have to leave the hotel to find it.

Amber’s Restaurant brings a contemporary Yorkshire approach to British cooking in a stylish but relaxed setting.

The restaurant takes inspiration from Lady Amber Fitzwilliam, a progressive thinker and pioneering scientist whose story is connected with the hotel and its famous Thursday Club.

Today, that spirit lives on through food with a little personality.

Our kitchen works with Yorkshire suppliers and uses locally sourced produce wherever possible, creating dishes that celebrate the region rather than serving food that could belong to a hotel anywhere in the country.

You can join us for dinner, settle into the lounge for something more relaxed or begin the next morning with breakfast before heading back out to explore Harrogate.

Both a full English breakfast and continental breakfast are available.

Afternoon Tea in Harrogate

Harrogate and afternoon tea have always made rather good companions.

At Amber’s you can enjoy a proper afternoon tea with sandwiches, savouries, freshly baked treats and cakes in the surroundings of our restaurant.

On warmer days, the hotel’s setting also gives you the chance to slow down and enjoy one of Harrogate’s great traditions just a short walk from the town centre.

For a little extra celebration, add a glass of chilled Prosecco.

Make Sunday Something to Look Forward To

You do not have to be staying overnight to become part of Cedar Court.

Amber’s is also home to our Sunday lunch, bringing together Yorkshire produce, traditional flavours and contemporary cooking.

It makes the hotel a place where visitors and Harrogate residents meet, eat and spend time together rather than somewhere that comes alive only when guests check in.

That local connection is important to us.

Relax Without Leaving the Hotel

Harrogate built its reputation as a place to escape, relax and feel better, and that idea still feels completely at home here today.

Guests can add a little more relaxation to their stay with the Harrogate Head Spa, Bliss Hair & Beauty and massage treatments, all available on site.

The Harrogate Head Spa offers specialist scalp and hair treatments in a relaxing setting, while Bliss provides professional hair and beauty services.

It opens up the possibility of making your hotel stay into something more.

Explore Harrogate in the morning, return for a treatment in the afternoon, enjoy dinner at Amber’s and then head upstairs for the night.

For couples, friends, wedding guests or anybody simply in need of a break, it is an easy way to build a little indulgence into a Harrogate stay.

Bringing Your Dog?

Harrogate is a wonderful place to explore on foot, so there is no reason your four-legged companion needs to miss out.

Dogs are welcome in a selection of our designated dog-friendly bedrooms for a charge of £15 per dog.

We provide a comfortable dog bed and tasty treats to help them settle in.

Dogs are also welcome in the hotel lounge, making it easier to relax together during your stay.

After a dog-friendly stay, the bedroom is professionally deep cleaned ready for future guests.

With the Stray immediately opposite the hotel, there is plenty of open space on the doorstep when it is time to stretch four legs rather than two.

Parking in Harrogate

One of the advantages of staying with us is having private on-site parking available at the hotel.

Parking is charged at £10 per 24 hours.

If you would prefer a stay with more already taken care of, keep an eye on our hotel packages and special offers.

Offers such as our Great Yorkshire Escape can include extras including a food and drink allowance, complimentary parking, late checkout and a glass of Prosecco on arrival, giving you more time to enjoy your stay rather than thinking about the little extras.

Offers and inclusions can change, so check our website for the latest available packages when booking.

Arrive Your Way

If you are travelling without a car, Cedar Court is also well placed for exploring Harrogate on foot and by public transport.

The centre of Harrogate and its transport connections are around a 10-minute walk from the hotel, making rail and bus travel a practical option for visitors.

If you are travelling by car, the hotel is within convenient reach of the A1(M) and provides private on-site parking.

More Than a Hotel Stay

Cedar Court Harrogate is also somewhere to meet, celebrate and make memories.

Our collection of spaces hosts weddings, private celebrations, conferences, meetings, dinners and events throughout the year.

The Imaginarium offers one of the hotel’s most distinctive private spaces, while our larger suites can welcome everything from business events to major celebrations.

Our programme of public events also gives both residents and visitors new reasons to return throughout the year.

Check our What’s On calendar when planning your stay. You may find that there is rather more happening under our roof than you expected.

A Greener Stay

Cedar Court Hotels is committed to continually reducing the environmental impact of our business.

The group holds a Green Tourism Silver Award and continues to invest in areas including energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, responsible sourcing and reducing single-use plastics.

We have achieved zero waste to landfill through our waste management partner and continue to strengthen relationships with local suppliers.

Our teams also work to source Yorkshire food and drink wherever possible, helping us support businesses closer to home while giving guests a more genuine taste of the region.

We know there is always more to do, which is why sustainability remains part of our ongoing investment rather than a finished project.

A Proper Yorkshire Welcome

What ultimately makes Cedar Court Harrogate different is not just its age, its location or its Grade II listed exterior.

It is the combination of them.

You can stay on a site that has welcomed Harrogate travellers for more than three centuries, wake up opposite one of the town’s most famous open spaces, walk into the centre in around ten minutes, return for afternoon tea or a treatment, enjoy locally inspired food at Amber’s and finish the evening in a newly refurbished bedroom.

We are proud of our history, but even more interested in what comes next.

As an independently owned Yorkshire hotel, we will keep investing, improving and finding new ways to make every stay more comfortable, more memorable and more delicious.

Whether you are here for your first visit to Harrogate, a romantic weekend, a Yorkshire escape, a celebration, a business trip or simply a night away, we look forward to welcoming you.
