Helmsley - Moors

Cleveland Way Guided Walking Holiday

From Hike Yorkshire

Walk the Cleveland Way National Trail from Helmsley to Filey with an expert guide. Moorland ridges, Captain Cook country and the North Sea cliffs, with local B&Bs and inns booked and your luggage moved each day.

About This Experience

The Walk

The Cleveland Way is one of England’s original National Trails, and one of its most varied. The first half follows the edge of the North York Moors across open heather moorland. Then it meets the sea at Saltburn and turns south along the clifftops, through fishing villages and past Whitby Abbey, to finish at Filey Brigg. Two very different walks joined into one, over seven to ten days.

Everything Arranged for You

We book your accommodation in comfortable local B&Bs and inns along the route, supporting the small businesses that keep the moors and coast alive. Your luggage is moved between each night’s stop, breakfast is included at most places, and packed lunches can be arranged. We can also organise transfers to the start and from the finish.

Guided or Self-Guided

A Hike Yorkshire guide walks with you every day, handling the navigation and sharing the history, folklore and wildlife of the route. Our guides are experienced, and include qualified Mountain Leaders. If you would rather walk on your own, we can set you up self-guided, with our team meeting you at checkpoints to resupply.

Along the Way

Rievaulx Abbey, the view from Sutton Bank, Mount Grace Priory, the Wainstones, Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook’s Monument, the fishing village of Staithes, Whitby Abbey, the smugglers’ lanes of Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough Castle and finally Filey Brigg.

Who It Suits

Regular walkers comfortable with several consecutive days of walking, including some steep moorland climbs and an undulating clifftop path. Daily stages are typically between 9 and 15 miles.

Good to Know

Prices start from £950 per person. Every trip is tailored, so the final price depends on group size, number of days, guided or self-guided walking, food requirements and transfers. Filey has a railway station on the Yorkshire Coast line, and we can arrange transfers to Helmsley.
