Selby Light at Selby Abbey
About Selby Light at Selby Abbey
Come to Selby and experience an installation of large-scale visual art that features the stories of Selby, and illuminates the magnificent Abbey.
Selby Light is a trail of installations both inside and outside the town’s iconic building, with a special trail through the Abbey Quarter and a major new artwork from visual specialists Imitating the Dog.
Experience Selby Light:
Starting outsite the abbey, the trail begins with Homeward, a brand-new installation celebrating our different stories and the unified feeling of finding home. Imitating the Dog's Homeward reimagines the stories of the diverse communities of Selby to tell a huge human tale of imagination, belief and personal history that begins with one very simple question: How Did You Get Here?
Featuring characters designed and inspired by local residents, this joyous story will be spectacularly projected onto the front of the 955-year-old Selby Abbey.
Homeward continues inside Selby Abbey, where you will also find Through the Liquid Crystal Display by Jazmin Morris
Continue inside for a breath-taking walk-through, where the characters come to life in unexpected and imaginative ways, sound-tracked by an original music score. All of the stories and characters come directly from a series of workshops with Selby residents.
On screens around the Abbey, you’ll see brand new work from Jazmin Morris: A series of visual code illustrations inspired by Selby Abbey and the stories of vibrant local community members.
Follow the light artwork trail across Selby town centre to discover works by Selby College students in shops and businesses.
