About Long Journeys to Freedom - Settle Victoria Hall

Two presentations on the themes of immigration and refugees organised by Settle Refugee Support Group to celebrate Refugee Week 2026.

Tim Smith is a Settle-based photographer and filmmaker. He has worked with Polish, Ukrainian and other communities in Britain. The presentation includes a showing of his short film Under the Radar, an intimate portrait of a Polish refugee community.

John Hebblethwaite will present the story of his mother, Anna, who was born in Poland and eventually settled in Bentham after making the long arduous trip to England after being deported to work in wartime Germany (as told in her book My Long Journey to Freedom).
