David Gordon Trio - Holy Trinity Church

The David Gordon Trio has a unique sound world, a strong pedigree and a worldwide following. Their music is characterised by searingly beautiful melodies, free-flowing improvisation and quick-fire humour. All their recordings have received rave reviews in media in Europe, the US and Japan, where they have sold more than 10,000 CDs. Their album Alexander Scriabins Ragtime Band was Mojo magazines jazz CD of the year and they plan to release their first live album later this year.

The trio has played festivals in Italy, Denmark and the UK, and collaborated with a wide variety of artists from singer Jacqui Dankworth, to saxophonist Andy Sheppard, guitarist John Etheridge and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

The trio features two giants of the London jazz scene, bassist Oli Hayhurst and drummer Tom Hooper.

David an award-winning composer - his tune Angel Feet is published in Sher Musics The European Real Book - and amongst his many commissions has written four concertos. An assured and versatile pianist, he is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical artist. He has also had a long association with the Swaledale Festival - including being commissioned to write the music for the opera Semmerwater - and is delighted to be bringing the trio to the area for the first time. For this concert they will play some of the repertoire they have developed based on classical themes, including by Faur, Bach and Scriabin.
