- Whats On In Scarborough
Playing host to a plethora of exciting annual events and festivals, Scarborough Fair’s Streets, Art and Fringe festivals (May, June, July, August) are a celebration of art and culture in the town, showcasing local creativity, alongside national and international artists. While Scarborough Extreme (July) brings all things active to our streets to motivate you! If spectator sport is more your thing then why not witness the thrill of Oliver’s Mount Bike races taking to the tracks throughout the summer months. Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre sees their ever popular headlining music acts blast onto the stage from June through to September delighting us with tunes for the summer nights bringing a buzz about the town.
The annual Armed Forces Day (June) on Scarborough’s South bay, brings jaw dropping air displays, spectacular parades, musical performances and interactive exhibits to our shores. Scarborough’s Cricket Festival (August) never fails to draw the loyal supporter to the famous cricket ground for a sun soaked match by the seaside. The late summer see’s Scarborough Jazz festival (Sept) round up the season at the Spa and The Goldwing Light Parade (Sept) of dazzling light-up motor bikes cruise the bays - a spectacle not to be missed!
A generational tradition still delighting audiences 100 years on, are the famous naval reenactments known as the 'Battle of Peasholm', on the lake at north bay’s Peasholm Park. Late season this oriental themed park welcomes you to their family arts and bushcraft event, Autumn Daze (Oct) followed closely by Moonlight on the Lake (Oct) seeing the park lit up throughout and reflecting beautifully on the waters. Scarborough Fair’s Lights festival also twinkles into town bringing in the festive season with a variety of light shows, installations and activities alongside the winter extravaganza 'Scarborough Sparkle' (Nov) at the Open Air Theatre, which with its Christmas market and fair ground rides you’ll be sure to be stepping into the festive spirit!
The town has a vast theatrical community so a visit to a live show is a must whilst here on the coast. Take your pick from our choice of special theatres from the local YMCA theatre, iconic Stephen Joseph Theatre or the historic Scarborough Spa – Between them bringing you a year-round programme of events covering a range of live theatre, music, comedy, festivals and film.
