Where is Ripon?
Ripon is near the centre of North Yorkshire where the Vale of York meets the Yorkshire Dales, 12 miles from Harrogate, Knaresborough and Thirsk and just seven miles from Boroughbridge.
What to expect
Though it is a cathedral City Ripon is surprisingly compact and is in fact the smallest city in Yorkshire and the third smallest city in England. This makes it a cosy and intimate place with everything just a short walk away. The heart of the town is cobbled market place lined with historic buildings and local shops. Ripon is a city of history with a trio of museums themed around law and order in less sympathetic times, and Cathedral that traces its history back more than a thousand years.
When is Ripon Market?
Ripon full market is every Thursday when the Market Place becomes a warren of traders offering almost everything you can think of. On Saturday morning there is a smaller market focusing on fresh produce.
Getting to Ripon
By Bus
From Harrogate the number 36 runs several times an hour with a modern and spacious fleet that offers free wifi to customers. There are also regular services to Boroughbridge and Northallerton.
By Rail
Harrogate Railway Station has direct services from Leeds, York and London King's Cross, and onward travel can be completed by the number 36 bus above.
By Car
Ripon is just 5 miles from junction 50 on the A1M, which provides connections to the M1 and M62.
