Nestled in the heart of Nidderdale, a designated National Landscape, Pateley Bridge is a market town that blends history, charm, and breathtaking scenery. Its award-winning High Street is lined with independent shops, cosy cafés, and a pub, making it the perfect place to experience the Dales.

Where is Pateley Bridge

Pateley Bridge is in the centre of Nidderdale on the East of the Yorkshire Dales.  The town is about 14 miles from Harrogate and 11 miles Ripon.  Masham is 13 miles to the North, and 10 miles southwest is Grassington in Wharfedale.  Pateley Bridge is also the heart of the Nidderdale National Landscape. A legally protect area of outstanding natural beauty.

What to Expect
The town is compact and best explored on foot. Stroll along the High Street to discover the world’s oldest sweet shop, browse galleries, and sample local produce. For a deeper dive into local heritage, visit the Nidderdale Museum housed in a former workhouse.  There is a large children’s play area and many walks of varying distance and challenge that can be started in the town.

Pateley Bridge has  a Tourist Information centre at Nidderdale Plus, staffed by friendly and knowledgeable local volunteers who maintain a stock of useful literature and a selection of gifts and souvenirs.

Getting to Pateley Bridge

By Bus: Pateley Bridge has a direct bus service from Harrogate in the Number 24 by Transdev. This picturesque route follows and valley floor and loosely traces the route of the old Nidd Valley Railway.

The route is operated by modern, comfortable electric buses which provide an enjoyable ride through the Nidderdale landscape.  A handy app provides live updates and bus location information for added convenience.

By Rail: Harrogate station has direct services from Leeds, York and London Kings cross, and onward travel can be completed by the number 24 bus above.

By Car: Pateley is approximately 30 minutes from the A1M, which connects to the M1 and M62.  Travel from directly to the west can be via the A65 or A66 and then 30 minutes of connecting.

There are several car parks, a short stay close to the high street and long stay car parks just a few minutes walk away.

EV charging is available at Southlands Car Park by the river.
