Imagine taking a weekend break to the seaside. Visions of lazy beach days, paddling in the sea, donkey rides and eating ice cream and fish and chips come to mind. Yes, the Yorkshire coast has everything you need for the perfect traditional seaside holiday.

However, there is more to North Yorkshire than meets the eye. If you are looking for a coastal break with some adventure, or perhaps want to enjoy something different on your holiday, you will not be disappointed

Friday arrival: check into your accommodation

Friday arrival: check into your accommodation – something a little different

Humble Bee Farm, near Scarborough

If glamping is your thing, then head to Humble Bee Farm in the Yorkshire Wolds where you can stay in a luxurious Wigwam with your own hot tub or go for a Nomadic Yurt where you can lay back and look at the stars through the ‘stargazer’ window.

Make use of the BBQ area and as night draws in, get cosy by the outdoor fire pit. The fairy lights inside your yurt add to the magical feeling.

Friday evening: Delicious food

The Quayside, Whitby

Nothing says seaside more than eating fish and chips. Head to The Quayside in Whitby for some great fish and chips.  This award-winning restaurant and takeaway serves traditional dishes including haddock, cod, scampi and plaice.

The first floor of the restaurant has gorgeous views over the harbour to enjoy while you eat or choose the takeaway option and head down to the beach or walk along the West Pier and enjoy your food to the sound of the waves.

Friday evening: Delicious food - something a little different

Enjoy a fine dining experience on the Yorkshire coast in the original oak panelled dining room with views of the gardens and the North York Moors.

The menu offers seasonal dishes made using locally produced ingredients such as venison and duck, and kitchen garden vegetables in the summer.

Enjoy stunning starters including smoked wood pigeon and cured salmon followed by mains such as cooked shin of beef and finish with a delicious dessert or a cheeky cheese course.

Saturday morning: A day at the beach

Discover the beaches of North Yorkshire

The Yorkshire coast has many beautiful beaches for you to enjoy. Choose from the bustling beaches at Scarborough and Whitby or the wide sandy beach at Filey. All are perfect for a day at the beach for couples and families.

Set up your picnic blankets and sunshades and enjoy a paddle or swim in the sea. Walk along the pier at Whitby with an ice cream in your hand or have a donkey ride on the South Bay at Scarborough.

Saturday afternoon: A day at the beach - something a little different

Enjoy a beach day with a difference

Head to the sweeping beach of Cayton Bay, a surfer’s paradise where you can hit the waves or try some bodyboarding. The three breaks here make this a great place to surf- test your surfing skills on Bunkers, Pumphouse and The Point.

This area of unspoilt coast is perfect for exploring the Yorkshire coast and of course catching the waves.

Sunday morning: stride out on a coastal walk

Discover beautiful walks that hug the coastline

Walk the coastal part of the Cleveland Way National Trail and explore the small coastal villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes.

The path takes you through these two pretty villages with rows of charming fishing cottages and Instagrammable views.

Sunday afternoon: Make a splash - something a little different

North Yorkshire WaterPark, Scarborough

Try some great watersports at The North Yorkshire WaterPark  near Scarborough. Go wakeboarding to get the adrenaline pumping, or maybe paddleboarding or kayaking is more your thing.

Perhaps you prefer to release your inner child and head to the Aquapark for some wild water fun. You can also try some activities on dry land – find your way out of the escape room, zoom down the zipline, or try axe throwing.
