Whitby Beach
Whitby Beach is a sandy and rocky beach backed by high cliffs, stretching for miles and offering safe, clean waters for swimming. It is possible to walk along the beach between Whitby and Sandsend during low tide.
About Whitby Beach
Whitby Beach offers something for everyone. Blue flag waters for those who like a paddle, fascinating rock pools for those interested in the local marine life, spectacular cliffs steeped in geological history for the visiting explorers and clean sandy beaches for those who just let to relax in the sunshine and soak up the atmosphere. Of course you’ll also see the famous Whitby Abbey looking over the beach from the cliff tops above, a must-see attraction when you're visiting.
Please note the cliff lift is currently out of service.

- The beach is patrolled by an RNLI qualified lifeguard service during the summer season
- Dog restrictions apply to this beach between 1 May and 30 September
- Deckchair hire is available daily (weather permitting) from 30 April to 2 October
- Chalets are available to hire May to September
