About Thorp Perrow Arboretum
The Arboretum
Thorp Perrow Arboretum is a 100-acre haven of trees, gardens and open space in the heart of North Yorkshire. Wander peaceful paths, discover rare and unusual specimens, and enjoy stunning seasonal colour throughout the year.
The Arboretum is a historic living collection of trees from across the world, including some incredibly rare and unusual species, alongside many ancient trees. We are proud to hold five National Plant Collections under the guidelines set out by Plant Heritage, as well as 51 Champion Trees.
Bird of Prey & Mammal Centre
Visit the Bird of Prey & Mammal Centre, where you can enjoy close encounters with raptors, owls, meerkats, pygmy goats and wallabies. Set within the Walled Garden at the northern end of the Arboretum, it’s a wonderful addition to your visit.
The Centre holds close to 100 birds from all over the world, including eagles, falcons, owls, and a songbird aviary. Take in one of our flying displays, and watch these magnificent birds in action!
In our walk-through Mammal Centre, there’s playful meerkats and African pygmy goats to see. The wallabies in the wooded walkway love being hand-fed by visitors too!
Family Fun
There’s lots to keep the whole family entertained here at Thorp Perrow! Climb, swing and explore in our playground, follow one of our seasonal trails, or simply enjoy the freedom of wide-open spaces, perfect for running, playing and picnicking.
Seasonal Beauty
The arboretum provides seasonal interest all year round, from blossom and bluebells in the spring to the vivid golden colours of autumn. We celebrate the seasons with trails, workshops and events throughout the year.
Eat & Drink
A Tea Room with a view…Our licensed Tea Room serves a mouth-watering selection of seasonal lunches, light bites, hot and cold drinks, and homemade treats that you can enjoy both inside our Tea Room or outside on the patio and lawned seating areas overlooking the gardens. Please note the tearoom closes at 4pm.
Wellness & Workshops
Take part in one of our many workshops, events and wellness programmes, each designed to bring you closer to nature and the beauty of the arboretum. From candle making to sound bathing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Shopping
We’re home to Thorp Perrow Garden Centre, located beside the Arboretum exit in a peaceful, attractive setting. The centre is run by garden enthusiasts Trevor, Ruth, Nathan and Penny.
