Thirsk - Heart

Thirsk Tourist Information

We are owned and run by volunteers, all passionate about Thirsk as a holiday destination, between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Thirsk has an untouched charm of its own, and we’d like to tell you about it.

About Thirsk Tourist Information

Thirsk Tourist Information is open 6 or 7 days a week and 47 weeks of the year and is easy to find in the middle of the Market Place.

Our Information Centre was opened by James Herriot’s son and daughter Jim and Rosie, both of whom are well known in the town. Like Alf Wight (Herriot’s real name), we love this place and encourage you to drop in for a chat.

We can also direct you to the World of James Herriot in Skeldale House where he worked with the other vets from ‘All Creatures Great and Small’  Our volunteers know many of the personalities.

To help both visitors and residents we create several of our own services:
• Our webcam lets you see Thirsk night and day.
• In-house developed walks and cycle routes are downloadable for free.
• We have local postcards and fridge magnets printed from our own photographs.
• Gifts on sale include Thirsk Tea Towels, mugs, pens and bookmarks designed by us.
• A ‘What’s On’ list covering Thirsk and neighbouring towns is updated daily and anyone can receive it for free by email

Visit our website for more information.

Opening hours are Mon to Sat from 10am with closing time dependent on the month:
Oct-Dec & Feb-Jun 3pm, Jul-Sep 4pm.
In July & August also open Sundays 10am-12Noon.
