The SJT is Scarborough’s independent theatre and cinema and is a cultural icon of the Yorkshire region, bringing you great nights out since 1955.

Over 100,000 people visit the SJT each year and many more experience its work on tour in the UK. We offer a unique, intimate experience in our renowned theatre-in-the-round, pioneered by our namesake Stephen Joseph. We also have a more traditional end-on McCarthy theatre which hosts a mix of theatre, comedy, music and more alongside our cinema programme, which includes new films, classics, foreign language films, plus live streaming events.

We’re open Monday to Saturday - this is your space, so please come and enjoy it!

Don’t forget we also have Eat Me @ the SJT in our first floor space, offering a diverse menu, including burgers, ramen, Shetland pie, Thai curries... and many more besides.

Box Office opening hours:

Monday - Saturday: 10am - 8pm*

We open on Sundays every now and then for events. The Box Office opens two hours before the show starts and closes 15 minutes after the show starts.

*Or 15 minutes after the last performance has started.
