Scarborough to Highwood Brow Cycle Route

The leg of the Moor to Sea route with perhaps the greatest variety – fine views, ancient woodland, wildflower verges and lush green dales dotted with farms. It’s just a stone’s throw from Scarborough, but the area has a sleepy, timeless quality all of its own. The forest roads are broad, smooth and easy to ride, and you finish with breath-taking views from Highwood Brow. The only section of the route that requires extra care is the steep tarmac hill near Wrench Green, though if you have to get off and push it’s not far!

Back roads and forest tracks, with one steep hill near Highwood Brow

This cycle route is part of the 'Moor to Sea Cycle Network', which connects Scarborough, Whitby, Dalby Forest, Pickering and Great Ayton in a stunning series of moorland, forest and coastal loops.

There are 11 different connecting sections, adding up to around 150 miles of cycling in total, through the very heart of the North York Moors National Park. Cycle it all at once (in 5 or 6 days), or tackle it a section at a time – each part of the route offers a different challenge.
