North Bay beach is one of Scarborough’s two bays. Of the two, the North is the place to be if you’re wanting to enjoy some sand and sea without an arcade in sight!

North Bay is an ideal location for water sport enthusiasts, especially surfers! It's also a great place for those who love rock pooling as you'll discover a bed of rocks that line the beach during low tide.

You can even rent or hire one of the famous rainbow coloured chalets that line the promenade, great for both families and friends. It’s also home to some of Scarborough’s most popular attractions including, North Bay Railway, Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Scarborough Sea Life Centre.

You'll also be able to see the famous Scarborough Castle on the cliffs above, creating the perfect picturesque landscape. The beautiful Peasholm Park is another great place to visit which is just a mere 5 minute walk from the North Bay promenade.

The beach is patrolled by an RNLI qualified lifeguard service during the summer season.

There is plenty to do whilst visiting Scarborough’s North Bay Beach. The golden sands offer the perfect opportunity to bring your bucket and spade and make sandcastles. Along the North Bay Promenade are cafes, ice cream parlours, local shops and colourful chalets which can be rented.

The North Bay is also excellent for water sports and is popular with surfers.

Nearby attractions include the North Bay Railway, Sealife Centre, Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Peasholm Park.

There is public toilets available at North Bay Beach Management Centre on North Promenade. The toilets are pay on entry and there is a changing place toilet available.

Parking for Scarborough's North Bay is available at locations including Northstead Upper, Northstead Lower, and Scalby Mills as well as pay and display along Royal Albert Drive.

Can I walk from North Bay Beach to South Bay Beach?

You can walk between the North Bay and South Bay along Royal Albert Drive around the castle headland, where you can take in stunning views out to sea. The walk takes around 30 minutes and is a steady flat route.

Alternatively, there is an open top bus which runs between The Sands and The Spa. This service is available daily throughout Summer.
