Kale Pot Cottage
Kale Pot Cottage is a self catering cottage, situated alone in our paddock in glorious Newtondale. There are miles of forestry tracks and the open moor just beyond, with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in between.
About Kale Pot Cottage
Kale Pot Cottage is a converted 18th Century barn offering comfortable self-catering accommodation for walkers, cyclists, or those who just want to experience the peace and tranquillity. Standing alone in our three acre paddock it is secluded but only 100 yards from a forest road. Walks or rides start from the front door – along forestry tracks or across the open moor. We are a Dark Skies location so on a clear night you won’t believe how many stars there are!
For train enthusiasts we are halfway between Levisham Station and Newtondale Halt on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - you can even see the steam trains from the paddock. But to soak up the peace and quiet you need go no further than the barbecue area or the paddock outside the front door. For days out, there are a wealth of attractions within easy reach. Historic houses include Castle Howard, Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Coastal towns, such as Whitby with its Captain Cook and Dracula connections (plus superb fish and chips) is less than half an hour away and bustling Scarborough (a favourite with kids of all ages) is a few minutes more. For thrill-seekers, just 15 miles away is Flamingoland Zoo and Theme Park, boasting some of the biggest rides in the UK. Even closer is Dalby Forest with its Go Ape high wire experience, world class mountain bike trails and award-winning visitor centre. Kale Pot Cottage guests enjoy free use of a Dalby Visitor Pass during their stay.
More tranquil attractions close by include Lavender Farms, Walled Gardens and Museums – Eden Camp, an ex-WW2 prison camp, being one of the more unusual. Familiar places from TV shows are Thirsk – home to vet James Herriott and Goathland – the Aidensfield village in Heartbeat, while Bangers and Cash is filmed in nearby Thornton-Le-Dale. From the big screen, some of Harry Potter was filmed on the NYMR, the latest Mission Impossible saw Tom Cruise performing on our stretch of the railway and Harrison Ford came too, playing Indiana Jones.
Kale Pot Cottage has downstairs a double bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom, plus a twin-bedded room with separate wetroom. There is space for a third bed in this room if required. The fully fitted kitchen, lounge and dining area are upstairs, with our very own spring water - on tap. There is full central heating throughout – with a log stove in the lounge, together with HD television. There is no mobile signal around Kale Pot Cottage, but WiFi is available if you need to keep in touch. Outside is ample fenced parking space with an electric vehicle (EV) fast charging point, a cycle store plus washing facilities and a beautiful walled patio area with its own barbecue.
Prices range from £395 to £760 per week, Saturday to Saturday. Our prices are all inclusive of towels, linen, electricity, central heating (plus first basket of logs), and WiFi – so no hidden extras.
