Explore a scenic 3-mile walk along George Stephenson’s historic Whitby to Pickering railway. Starting at Esk Valley, the route follows a well-maintained path through woodlands and along the River Esk, ending in Beck Hole, home to a charming riverside pub. The railway, opened in 1836 with horse-drawn carriages, was later transformed by George Hudson into a thriving steam-powered line. Once essential for miners and locals, the route now offers an easy, history-rich trek through North Yorkshire’s picturesque landscape.
