Cliff Bridge (Spa Foot bridge)

Built in 1827 this feat of Victorian engineering stands proudly overlooking Scarborough's south bay and providing pedestrian access from Scarborough town centre to the Spa and south cliff.

About Cliff Bridge (Spa Foot bridge)

First built in 1827 this ornate footbridge previously named and still locally known as 'Spa bridge' was to provide pedestrian access from the town centre to Scarborough Spa and south cliff where many elegant hotels and Georgian lodgings stood. The bridge, now Grade II listed, was built from stone and iron and stands 22 meters high and 126 meters long. There was originally a toll charged to cross but it is now free. It is very reflective of the Victorian engineering and style seen throughout the town.
