Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden

Listed Edwardian Aysgarth Rock Garden

About Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden

Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden is one of the most unusual Listed Buildings in the Yorkshire Dales. Tucked away in the village of Aysgarth in Wensleydale, near to the famous Aysgarth Falls, this charming and beautifully landscaped garden is a true hidden gem. With its natural stone features, colourful planting, and stunning countryside views, it offers a little escapism for those exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

History of the rock garden

The rock garden was commissioned in 1906 by Frank Sayer-Graham, a keen horticulturist, who owned the cottage opposite. Large, weathered blocks of limestone were hauled down from the surrounding fells to create the dramatic rock formations, complete with a mountain stream and pool.

In 1988, the garden was officially listed, recognising it's historical and architectural importance. Since then, its owners have raised the funds to restore the garden to its former glory.
