About Ice Age Dig - Stump Cross Caverns

Buried beneath the Yorkshire Dales, nature’s time capsule is finally open.

For the first time in 25 years, we’re opening a brand-new section of cave at Stump Cross Caverns. Digging it the C Chamber has unearthed tonnes of genuine Ice Age mud and we need your help to sieve through it.

This mud has given up real Ice Age remains over the years: wolverine, reindeer, bison, wolf and Arctic fox. Our most recent wolverine discovery was made just this January. Now it’s your turn.

Each 45-minute session is led by our Cavewoman and you’ll work through authentic cave mud with your own hands, searching for traces of the Yorkshire Dales as it was thousands of years ago. Every handful holds the potential for something extraordinary.

You won’t go home empty-handed either! Beautiful calcite crystal runs through the mud, and you’re welcome to take a piece home. A genuine piece of Stump Cross Caverns, yours to keep

Come and be part of history. Our first sessions are this May Half term! - check the link in our bio for availability.

(Ages 5+ and yes…dress to get muddy!)
