About Ruth Theodore & Special Guest Katie Dahl - Everything Good Goes
Having started her career as a street busker on Englands south coast, Ruth is now signed to Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe records and sharing labels, stages and studios with iconic international artists, as a performer, writer and recently co-producer, making her critically acclaimed music alongside long term collaborators; Tony and Grammy award winning producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose, and Swiss-American virtuoso percussionist Mathias Kunzli.
Ruths music is inspired by lived experience which makes her a folk singer in essense, but theres a strong sense of playful rebellion in her delivery that embodies hints of 1920s vaudeville theatre, buckets of indie punk rock attitude and the relentless lyrical energy of a beat poet.
Busking and performing in bars from the age of 14 and then self releasing her first three records on DIY label River Rat Records, Ruth has led a nomadic existence, living between river boats, squats, and artist workshops in East London up until 2020 when she moved to co-run a music venue in the south of England. Theodores music reflects her naturally transient personality.
Over her career Theodore has carved a unique and instantly recognizable style that has seen her described as an "Original Folk Voice" in the Guardian; "A master of the long-form" and "An Institution" in FATEA magazine. As well as inviting record deals with London based label Aveline Records and current US based label Righteous Babe Records.
Ruth's music and lyricism effortlessly pushes the boundaries of gender and genre.
We're also chuffed to bits that Katie Dahl will be joining forces with Ruth on his very first U.K. Tour.
In 2025, Katie won the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Competition; in 2023 she was named Most Wanted to Return at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes, Katie Dahl . . . combine[s] old-fashioned populism, an abiding love of the land and wickedly smart love songs, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto.
Katies most recent album, Seven Stones (2023) is a deep dive into vulnerability originally titled Things Katie Dahl Finds Hard to Say. Produced by Julie Wolf and featuring appearances by such luminaries as Kris Delmhorst, Peter Mulvey, Eliza Gilkyson, Vicki Randle, Todd Sickafoose, and Jenny Scheinman, the album was praised as breathtaking by Country Queer and spent a month at \#2 on the folk radio charts. Her 2019 album Wildwood, which explored her ancestry and contemporary life in Door County, was produced by JT Nero (Birds of Chicago) and features Allison Russell; the albums song Worry My Friend hit \#6 on the folk radio charts in 2019.
Katie Dahls songs arent just melodies and words, theyre journeys that are firmly grounded in a sense of placebeautiful, real landscapes that help you feel places that you may have never been before. Thats the very best kind of songwriting. - Dar Williams
